How long does it take to learn a language? If you wanted to be able to speak fluently, probably four to six years. What if there were a way to learn things much faster? Wouldn’t that be great?
As I fell asleep last night, I came up with a very simple idea. What if there were a device that could send nanobots into your mind and scan your brain? They could store every piece of knowledge, as well as memories, along with anything else in the brain. The nanobots would return to the device and the brain map would be stored inside.
When hooked up to a computer, the brain’s map would be imported into the computer. The user could go through the vast trove of knowledge by navigating folders and documents.
But it goes beyond knowing what you already know. Say you had a friend who spoke fluent Spanish, and you want to learn Spanish too. They would simply hook their brain scanner to your computer, and drag and drop the “Spanish” file from their device to yours. Once you “update your brain,” you will be able to speak Spanish as if you’ve known it all your life.
I think this is a pretty wild idea. The possibilities are seemingly endless. Information would spread faster than it ever could over the Internet. Web sites could offer free “knowledge downloads” that you can sync to your scanner and put into your mind.
However, humans are a long way off from ever doing something so amazing. Until then, I’d like you to tell me what you think of the idea by leaving a comment. Thanks for reading!
We are the Borg. Lower your shields and surrender your ships. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your culture will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile.
First thing it reminded me of.
It’d take away the uniqueness of everyone, though.
There are limitations to what you would be able to do. For instance, you can’t use it to control somebody’s actions. You can only share knowledge. I don’t see how it would take out the individuality of everybody. It doesn’t take away personality. It just adds to the stuff you know.
It sounds a bit like how Neo learned kung fu in the Matrix. Although downloading information right into your brain sounds cool, on some issues like learning a language, a lot of words would probably get lost in translation. If you’ve ever tried to translate something using one of those sites that translate languages, sometimes the last thing you would expect gets translate and you’re left scratching your head saying, ‘what?’ Still is an interesting idea though.
Thats a great idea, I always thought of just having a USB port inside your head, but yours sounds more SCI-FI.
The only problem with your idea is what if one breaks or leaks oil all over your brain? You would either have a steaming/melting piece of metal inside your skull or they would malfunction and “Digg” (haha bad joke -.- ) inside of your brain.
I liked the post. Kept me entertained!
I don’t think nanobots work that way. They are microscopic little things that are no more than robots. Even if they did have a malfunction ,I doubt it would do much damage. But the mental image is funny!
Very interesting (although sounds a wee bit painful). It would be nice to learn things at a drop of a dime, but for now I would be happy just finding a way to remember all my kid’s school activities!
Lol! How could it be painful? Nanobots can’t even be felt… I’m sure I could find a way to make nanobots improve memory!
Hi all,
Hi Jason,
It sounds like a cool idea, it would be nice for those going abroad for a holiday and don’t have time to learn the minimal phrases so plug into the computer and download the native language, at least it would be enough to get you by while your on holiday.
My only concern with this concept though is knowing where there is good there is generally an element of bad it’s only a matter of time before people downloaded viruses with this new technology, oh it could get worse, people hacking your brain.
What am I saying, jason you have too much time on your hands, lol.
Tony:)
I thought about viruses, and it certainly is the kind of thing that can easily happen. But my idea for downloading knowledge from the Internet would be downloading things from the official site of the company. That would ensure that nobody accidently puts a virus into their brain and spreads it to their friends. Wow, I can’t believe I’m actually talking about this lol…
And I do have way too much time on my hands!
Whoah! That is really a cool idea.
But no thanks. I still want to learn things by myself and really give time for it.
But if ever we will come to that point i will gladly accept it.
I have attempted to learn a couple of other languages. It has always been a difficult challenge for me. If there was an easier way to learn I might be attempted to try.
Hi all,
I think the only thing I would download personally would be how to play the guitar, drums and piano, always wanted to learn those but simple never got the time.
I actually came back here to tell you to keep the new theme Jason, it looks way cool.
How many blogs have you got now? Or do you keep changing the same one? This one is cool though, great job.
Tony:)
Thanks! I’ll keep the template. And those kinds of things you would download are exactly the kind of things that the gadget would be meant for. This is my one and only blog. The Apple Report was discontinued due to technical problems.
